In this episode of The Wax Wizard, we have three very different and dramatic cases—starting with a returning patient who didn’t quite learn his lesson the first time!
Case 1: He Did It Again! Our first patient previously appeared 10 months ago after lodging a huge wad of cotton wool deep in his ear canal to stop drops leaking out: Watch his previous visit: GIANT Ball of Cotton Wool! Episode 537 Much to his wife’s disbelief and frustration, he did it again! This time, the giant cotton ball had stuck directly to his delicate eardrum, causing minor bleeding upon removal.
Case 2: Cotton Bud Tinnitus Our second patient used cotton buds (Q-tips) to clean her ears, only to push compacted ear wax right onto her tympanic membrane, triggering sudden tinnitus. A reminder why you should never poke anything smaller than your elbow in your ear!
Case 3: Pulsing Tinnitus & Eardrum Growth Our final patient presented with a strange, vascular-looking growth on her eardrum along with pulsatile tinnitus (a heartbeat/pulsing sound in the ear, likely linked to altered blood flow around the growth). She has already been referred to ENT for specialist evaluation and management of what appears to be an ear drum polyp.
