Tinnitus is the perception of sound in the absence of a corresponding external acoustic stimulus and is commonly described as ringing, buzzing, humming, hissing, clicking, roaring, or pulsating sounds in the ear. It may be temporary or persistent, unilateral or bilateral, and can occur with or without measurable hearing loss.
